Queen Creek renews lease with specialty school

Posted

AZ Aspire Academy will continue to lease town property for at least one more year.

The school is located on town property at 2407 S. Ellsworth Road in Founders’ Park. The school is in the space once occupied by the community center and fire station No. 1.

The school’s current lease expired and the owner wanted to renew the agreement for an additional one-year term.

The Queen Creek Town Council approved the lease renewal and a one-year option at its Aug. 6 meeting. The lease renewal was part of the council’s consent agenda in which all items are handled with one motion and vote.

The vote was 6-0. Vice Mayor Leah Martineau was absent from the meeting.

“Aspire Academy has been located at its current space since mid-2017 and has invested significantly in tenant improvements, including expansion into the former Boys and Girls Club space,” according to a council staff report.

Under the renewed lease, the monthly rent for the first year will be $5,242 plus applicable taxes. If the school takes up the one-year option, the monthly rent will go up to $5,339 plus applicable taxes. The current monthly rent is $5,015 plus tax.

The lease with AZ Aspire Academy will provide revenue to the general fund totaling $62,912 for the first year, and $64,079 for the option year. The two-year rent will total $126,992.

Under the agreement, the town remains responsible for maintenance and major repairs on the facility.

AZ Aspire Academy provides one-to-one academic instruction, partnering with parents to customize each student’s education plan and matching children to teachers and instructors, according to the academy’s website. Students receive small-group instruction in social thinking, science, history, art, yoga, STEM and physical education.

AZ Aspire Academy also has locations in Tempe, Scottsdale and Litchfield Park.
