As Halloween approaches, the Queen Creek Police Department reminds residents to celebrate safely.
This year, Halloween is on a Saturday.
“Whether trick-or-treating, attending events or hosting a gathering, the following safety tips can help ensure everyone enjoys a fun and safe Halloween,” a town press release stated.
Costumes:
Make sure costumes do not obstruct children's vision and avoid long or baggy costumes.
Bright colors and adding reflective tape are recommended.
Halloween night:
A parent or adult should accompany young children, and trick-or-treaters should travel in groups.
Never enter a stranger's home.
Use sidewalks and crosswalks when available and always be aware of surroundings.
Driving:
Wear a seat belt at all times.
Avoid distractions in the car and slow down, especially in neighborhoods.
Watch for children at intersections, crosswalks and along curbs.
Designate a sober driver.
QCPD stated that it will enforce all laws related to alcohol, illegal drugs and impaired driving.
E-bike and motorized device safety reminders:
Slow down, watch for pedestrians and follow the town's 15 mph speed limit on sidewalks, multiuse trails, bicycle lanes and parking lots.
Do not use handheld devices while riding — hands-free use only.
Recreational riding in town parks is prohibited.
“Dangerous or reckless riding may result in your device being impounded and completion of a QCPD safety class required before it is released,” the release continued.
Hosting a party:
Monitor party activities.
Ensure everyone has a safe way to get home.
Do not facilitate or contribute to parties with illegal activity, including underage drinking, excessive noise or other violations consistent with unruly gatherings.
Kids and teens are under the town’s curfew. For those ages 15 and under, the curfew runs from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. For teens ages 16 and 17, the curfew runs from midnight-5 a.m.
Residents can report suspicious behavior, criminal activity or unruly gatherings to QCPD's non-emergency line at 480-358-3500. In an emergency, call 911.
