With holiday shopping kicking into high gear, the Queen Creek Police Department is reminding shoppers and motorists to put safety first.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, avoid distractions and use common courtesy — or “drive to arrive” — this holiday season, according to a town press release.
QCPD has these tips for shoppers:
Bring only the cash and credit cards needed. Keep cash separate from ID and credit cards.
Be alert. A purse or wallet may be a target in crowded shopping areas. Be wary of those who create distractions.
Limit the use of cell phones and other devices when in public areas, otherwise, awareness levels are compromised.
Use ATMs located in well-lit areas and only withdraw the amount of cash needed.
Protect PINs by shielding the ATM keypad and do not throw away ATM receipts.
Always lock cars and store items out of sight. Don’t leave valuables in vehicles.
If shopping at night, park in well-lit areas and always be aware of the surroundings.
When shopping online, only do business with familiar companies and only shop at secure websites.
Check credit card and bank statements regularly for fraudulent use. Report any fraudulent charges to banks, credit bureaus and law enforcement.
Be aware of cryptocurrency ATM scams. Legitimate business, government agencies or tech support services will never instruct a person to withdraw money from their bank account and deposit it into a cryptocurrency ATM. If there is pressure to do this, stop immediately because it’s a scam.
