Queen Creek police offer drivers back-to-school advice

Posted

Schools in the Queen Creek Independent School District reopen in a week and the police department is asking drivers to be alert.

As families gear up for the return to school, drivers can expect more activity around campuses and school zones.

The Queen Creek Police Department will be out in the community to help ensure a safe and smooth start to the new school year, the department stated in a Facebook post.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Increased traffic, so plan ahead and be patient
  • School zone speed limits will be in effect
  • Stop for school buses with flashing lights or extended stop signs
  • Watch for crosswalks and people walking or biking

Classes start on Monday July 21.

QCPD and QCUSD are community partners and this year, the department is implementing the Drug Impairment Training for Education Professionals program for district teachers and staff.

The program teaches a systematic approach for recognizing and evaluating students in school who may be abusing and impaired by legal and illegal drugs. The program also provides intervention tools.

The program is funded through a grant from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
