No transparency, coordination on Bologna Elementary traffic plan

Posted

OPINION — Your May 21 story by Jason Brooks (Chandler board OKs school traffic-flow work for nearly $2M) was an interesting article and of particular interest to me due to ongoing school traffic-safety concerns in my residential area.

If you drill deeper on the subject, there are several school traffic concerns across Chandler Unified School District and/or private schools.

For example, Rudy Bologna Elementary School has revised a parent drop-off/pick-up traffic plan to now direct traffic — 40,000 cars per year — onto a residential street, East Elgin Street)

I have researched the CUSD traffic plan-approval process and learned that there is very little coordination or transparency among CUSD and city of Chandler and the public.

This news story exemplifies the issue. Traffic backup onto Val Vista Drive due to Weinberg  Gifted Academy has been a problem for quite some time. Forward planning doesn't happen, only a reaction to a predictable issue.

The Rudy Bologna traffic issue is another prime example. The traffic change occurred with no transparency. Elgin Street residents were not made aware of the change.

I have requested public records and documents from both the city and CUSD for school traffic change at Rudy Bologna, and, to date, have received pushback on the information request.
