New trail extension now open in Queen Creek

Posted

The Queen Creek Wash Trail extension from the Crismon Road alignment to Rittenhouse Road is now open.

The project included extending the Queen Creek Wash Trail with a new asphalt path for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as ramps down to the bottom of the wash for equestrian users.

“Our wash trail system is so important to our community,” Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley stated in a town press release. “It provides a beautiful place for our residents to get outside and recreate, a safe alternative way to get around town and is an opportunity to preserve some of our equestrian heritage! And this project brings us one step closer to our goal of having a complete trail loop.”

With the opening, the Queen Creek Police Department is reminding residents to be alert and prioritize safety when using the trails.

The following safety tips can help prevent injuries and reduce risks:

  • When possible, do not visit trails or walking paths alone
  • Stay in well-lit areas
  • Always be alert and aware of your surroundings
  • Pets must be on a leash at all times
  • Clean up after pets
  • Do not litter
  • Wheels yield to heels
  • Bikers yield to walkers/runners and horses
  • Walkers/runners yield to horses
  • Stay to the right on paths - pass on the left
  • Do not disturb wildlife

“Certain motorized devices are permitted on multiuse trails, sidewalks and bicycle lanes,” QCPD stated on a Facebook post. “These devices must be operated in a reasonable and safe manner, obey all traffic laws and yield to pedestrians and equestrians.”

Class 1 and 2 electric bikes, as well as micromobility devices such as electric scooters and electric standup scooters are allowed on the trail. Golf carts, all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles are not permitted.

Residents can report prohibited devices on the trail by calling the QCPD’s non-emergency line at 480-358-3500.
