Students should have facts about history

OPINION — I have only lived in Arizona, and in particular Peoria, for slightly under three years and enjoy reading the Peoria Independent newspaper to find out what is going on in my new community.

As an American and a person of color, I am outraged that the Peoria Unified School District has fallen in line with far too many school districts throughout this country in banning books, many of which provide historical facts that all children should read.

History isn’t always pretty but a well educated person should have all the facts and not just hand-picked stories that paint an inaccurate picture. I hope this decision will be reversed and I will be watching carefully.
