Record summer enrollment bucks Deer Valley Unified’s long-term trend

District leaders say data, family feedback will help shape expanded summer learning in 2027

While Deer Valley Unified School District is facing long-term enrollment headwinds, several of its summer programs are moving in the opposite direction.

The district’s online high school summer program reached a record enrollment of nearly 2,000 students in 2026, highlighting demand for flexible academic opportunities even as overall district enrollment has steadily declined in recent years. District leaders pointed to the milestone during the governing board’s Aug. 11 meeting, its first of the new school year.

“This multi-year view illustrates the continued growth and changing needs across our summer programs from 2022 through 2026,” Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Dr. Gayle Galligan told the board. She noted that the online high school program reached “a record high of nearly 2,000 students in 2026,” while the district’s gifted summer camps also achieved their highest participation to date.
