Peoria violates drinking water standard

Officials: Not an immediate health risk

The city of Peoria water system has exceeded the maximum contaminant level for total trihalomethanes, violating a drinking water standard, according to a notification sent to city water customers.

The affected area includes city water customers in the southern part of the system, specifically south of Bell Road. City officials said there is no danger to residents using the water unless there is long-term exposure.

The rest of the system is within the standard, officials say, but Peoria water customers have a right to know what happened and what is being done to correct this situation.
