One of Arizona’s top high school football receivers was not supposed to make a varsity catch.
Tanner Austin’s career nearly ended before his sophomore year started.
“I’m fighting for a spot and on the first day of camp, I go up to catch a ball and I came down wrong and lacerated my kidney,” Austin said. “I was not supposed to play football anymore. That was what the first doctor told me. I was like, ‘I’m playing football.’ I came back to another doctor and they said I’ll have to sit out the season. Then I went to another doctor and they cleared me to play the last two games."
