Peoria trails affected by heavy storms

Following the weekend’s heavy storms and flooding, several sections of the New River Trail remain underwater and impassable. Trail users are urged to use caution and follow all posted closures and safety advisories.

Official say the lower sections of the New River Trail beneath Thunderbird Road and at Grand Avenue are currently underwater and closed to public access. These sections will remain closed until water levels recede by at least another foot. Current projections indicate the affected areas may be ready to reopen by Friday, weather and water conditions permitting.

Several other sections of the New River Trail remain open and safe for public use. The upper terrace portions of the trail from Thunderbird Road north to Jomax Road remain accessible.
