A Raising Cane's restaurant with a drive-thru facility is planned north of McKellips Road on the east side of Power Road in Mesa.
The look and landscaping for the development on 3 acres were discussed at the May 9 meeting of the Mesa Design Review Board.
The property is in the limited commercial zoning district where restaurants with a drive-thru are permitted, Staff Planner Chloe Durfee Daniel said at the board’s May 9 meeting.
“The site is currently vacant. As you can see on the site plan they are proposing a 2,966-square-foot restaurant building with a drive-thru. It does start on a single entry and expands to allow two lanes of stacking distance to allow them flexibility for primetime versus what they’re normally expecting,” she said.
“They do also offer an outdoor patio and integrated canopies with pedestrian links to the sidewalk. There is vehicular access off of Delmon Drive, which then leads out onto Power Road,” Daniel said.
Trees planned include desert museum palo verde, seedless desert willow and Texas mountain laurel. Shrubs include bougainvillea, red bird of paradise, outback sunrise emu, blue bells and jojoba, according to the landscape plan.
Kevin Appelbe of PM Design Group is the applicant. Brad Joseph, BMJ Holdings LLC, Power Investment Holdings LLC and Quattro Mesa LLC are the owners.
The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
