The Mesa Planning & Zoning Board voted 6-0 to recommend the city council approve a rezoning request for a multiuse project that would bring more commercial, retail and residential space to Mesa during the board’s Dec. 11 meeting.
The project, known as Medina Station, would be within the southeast corner of East Southern Avenue and South Signal Butte Road. The project is separated into three parcels, the first being 40 acres of commercial space, the second being 11 acres for residential developments, and the third being 13 acres of residential space, according to city documents.
Board member Genessee Montes was absent from the meeting.
The development would be made possible through a rezoning from agricultural to limited commercial with a planned-area development overlay. The total size overall would be 61 acres, and the project would be managed by Bela Flor Holdings LLC.
The council is likely to vote on this zoning request during its Jan. 13 meeting, which takes place at 5:45 p.m. at the council chambers at 20 E. Main St.
The seven-member Planning and Zoning Board conducts hearings and makes recommendations to the city council on requests for changes in zoning and on required site plans. It also considers and recommends changes in the city's long-range plans and in the municipal code concerning planning and zoning matters. Members are appointed for staggered terms of three years.
