In Mesa, Proposition 420, which would allow Mesa Public Schools to sell or lease property for funding, is popular with voters as early results show over 64,000 and over 68% of voters supporting it.
Proposition 419, an over $1.4 billion bond for the Mesa Public School district, is unpopular with voters, as just over 50%t, or over 48,098 votes, are against it with only 49% of votes, 47,937 votes for the measure.
The bond would help with capital projects at Mesa’s 82 schools that serve over 50,000 students.
Should neither measure pass, the governing board will need to discuss where to find funding for capital projects.
Prop. 420 would allow the sale and lease of six properties around Mesa.
In November 2018, voters authorized the district to sell $300 million in obligation bonds for repairs and renovations, technology, and transportation needs. Bonds were sold through 2022 and spent through 2025. The district is seeking funding for repairs to school facilities and security updates to several schools.
Preliminary results are not final until the election is canvassed by the governing board.
