Posted

The city of Mesa swore in the new district 2 councilmember.

Dorean Taylor was sworn in on Nov. 17 after successfully defeating former councilmember Julie Spilsbury in a Nov. 4 recall election.

"I want to thank the voters of District 2 for participating in the special election, and welcome Councilmember Taylor," said Mayor Mark Freeman in a press release. "I look forward to continuing to 'Elevate Mesa' with our City Council and the support of city leadership as we focus on the priorities that matter to our community: public safety, strong neighborhoods, economic opportunity, education and workforce development."

Taylor has been a Mesa resident for nearly 20 years and will prioritize public safety services, infrastructure, addressing homeless and supporting policies to keep Mesa affordable.

"I am honored to have the confidence and trust of District 2 residents," said Taylor. "I will continue to focus on accountability, fiscal responsibility and preserving Mesa's long-standing community values."

Taylor's term will run through January of 2029. For more information, visit Mesa Now.
