Mesa School Board approves adopted budget of $515M for 2027

Posted

The Mesa Public Schools governing board adopted a $515 million budget on July 9 during its regular board meeting last week.

The district’s Chief Business Officer Tyler Moore presented the budget for the year with reductions of up to $13 million following changes to Proposition 123 and with what officials said was slowing enrollment as a result of Empowerment Scholarship Accounts over the past several years.

There were no comments from the public during the meeting, and member Sharon Benson was the only board member who had questions for Moore.

Benson wanted to know more about the funding sources. Moore explained that the anticipated budgets and the actual budget often change mid-year, allowing for a shift if more funding is needed in another program.

Board President Courtney Davis thanked Moore and the district staff for the presentation.

“Thank you for the amount of information. We have had a lot of discussions regarding this and I appreciate the clarifications,” Davis said.

The board will review the budget and make necessary changes in December. Revisions will need to be finalized on May 15 in order to be submitted to the state.
