The Mesa Public Schools Governing Board on Nov. 12 unanimously approved a $450,000 contract to retrofit sports field lighting at various schools in the district so they can be controlled remotely.
According to board documents, the contract retrofits existing sports field lighting so it will be remotely controlled and scheduled to turn on and off at specific dates and times in advance of field usage at the following schools: Franklin Accelerated Academy at Brimhall, Fremont Junior High School, Poston Junior High School, Rhodes Junior High School, Shepherd Junior High School, Stapley Junior High School, Taylor Junior High School, Dobson High School, Westwood High School, Skyline High School, Red Mountain High School, Whittier Elementary School, Redbird Elementary School and Hughes Elementary School.
The contract was requested by Mike Kramer, executive director of operations and construction for the district. Documents say the district plants to use NGU Sportslighting for the contract.
MUSD — also known as Mesa Public Schools — is the largest public school district in Arizona and has six high schools, nine junior high schools, 55 elementary schools and 18 choice and success schools.
