Mesa planning board approves hotel development

Posted

The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board approved a site plan for the development of a 44,350-square-foot hotel within the Mountain Vista Marketplace at their Dec. 11 meeting by a vote of 6-0, with boardmember Genessee Montes absent.

Titled Fairfield Hotel, the development would be located north of U.S. Highway 60 and west of Signal Butte Road. The hotel would be within a limited commercial zoning district with a planned area development overlay, according to board documents.

The hotel would be four stories tall with a proposed height of 56.5 feet and 2.2 acres in size. In total, there would be 79 rooms, an outdoor pool, a covered public space with seating and 82 parking spaces. Vehicular access would be provided from South 105th place.

Board documents say property owners within 500 feet were notified, but staff did not receive any comments or concerns.

The seven-member Planning and Zoning Board conducts hearings and makes recommendations to the city council on requests for changes in zoning and on required site plans. It also considers and recommends changes in the city’s long-range plans and in the municipal code concerning planning and zoning matters. Members are appointed for staggered terms of three years.
