Mesa council votes to approve pool resurfacing for city park

The Mesa City Council voted 6-0 April 7 to approve a $120,000 annual contract for pool resurfacing at city parks.

Council member Francisco Heredia was absent.

The contract —funded by the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities operating budget — was awarded to Carefree Stone LLC of Phoenix as per a staff recommendation.

The contract, set for three years with a two-year renewal option, will provide pool deck resurfacing and repair, concrete crack joint repair and expansion joint caulk replacement and repair for pools at city parks and city aquatic facilities.

According to board documents, a request for proposal was sent to registered swimming pool cool deck resurfacing providers, with one proposal received back. The board documents say that this is a common pattern.

“This is the third attempt in three years to solicit bidders for these services. Potential bidders may not be interested due to the increase in the construction of private pools versus the city’s annual needs,” the board documents read.
