Massive Mesa sports complex breaks ground Friday

A 320-acre sports and entertainment complex will break ground in Mesa on Friday.
Legacy Sports Park anticipates it will draw more than 3 million visitors annually, add 1,500 jobs and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in direct economy impact to the Valley. Developers say it will be the largest privately-owned multi-sport facility in the U.S.
The park will be at Ellsworth and Pecos roads, just east of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
Outdoor facilities:
A multi-field soccer complex that includes 21 soccer fields with the ability to expand to 50
An 8,000-seat multi-purpose stadium
Soccer Performance Playground mirrored after Manchester United’s performance playground
Twenty sand volleyball courts, including one stadium court
Forty pickleball courts, including one stadium court
Six sand soccer fields
Eight baseball/softball fields including one baseball/softball stadium
A 50-acre special events area for concerts, festivals, and events
A multipurpose outdoor amphitheater designed for concerts, family shows, exhibitions, and conventions
Indoor facilities:
Sixty-two volleyball courts including one multi-purpose arena
Sixteen NBA-size basketball courts with one multi-purpose arena
Six Olympic-size futsal courts
A 75,000-square-foot eSports arena
A 50,000-square-foot venue for gymnastics, cheer, and dance center
