An auto-repair facility is to be constructed south of Pecos Road and west of Ellsworth Road in Mesa.
The planned look and landscaping for the Maaco Collision Repair & Automotive Painting business on 1 acre were approved in a 4-0 vote Oct. 17 by the Mesa Design Review Board. Chair Scott Thomas was absent.
The site is zoned light industrial with a planned area development overlay, Staff Planner Kwasi Abebrese said at the meeting.
“The proposed site plan shows the development of an 8,279-square-foot building. The site will be screened with an 8-foot-tall masonry wall. Vehicle access is provided from Waltham Avenue,” he said. “In all, a total number of 23 parking spaces are required and a total number of 29 spaces are provided and this meets the parking requirements outlined in the Mesa zoning ordinance.”
Tim Rasnake of Archicon Architecture and Interiors is the applicant. Sharon Barnes/Kristen and Vaneet Sapra are the owners.
A single-story, 8,279-square-foot building for office and industrial uses is planned, according to a written project narrative from Archicon Architecture and Interiors.
“There will be two paint/curing rooms installed with two exhausts exiting through the roof. The top of each exhaust will be below the top of the parapet,” it states. “The building will be constructed of similar building materials already used in the Gateway Airport Commerce Park development.”
The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
