The site of a former Sonic Drive-in is to be developed with an Ultra Clean Express Car Wash — also known as Rinse n Ride — east of Greenfield Road on the north side of Brown Road in Mesa.
The planned look and landscaping for the development on 1 acre were discussed during the Sept. 12 meeting of the Mesa Design Review Board.
The existing structure will be demolished and replaced with a 3,937-square-foot car wash facility with 14 vacuums and a fence to block the sound, Staff Planner Joshua Grandlienard said during the meeting.
“You’ll see a sound-attenuating fence for when it goes through the tunnel. This is to reduce the overall impacts of the sound from the neighbors to the south and east. This way it will force all of the sound back onto the site itself,” he said.
According to the landscape plan, trees include Mexican bird of paradise and sweet acacia; shrubs include oleander, valentine bush and deer grass; and ground covers include lantana and rosemary.
Sean Lake of Pew and Lake is the applicant. B&B Merritt Real Estate LLC is the owner.
The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
