HonorHealth offering free hernia screenings Aug. 9 in Mesa

Posted

Hernias are far more common than most people realize.

One in four men and one in 25 women will develop a hernia in their lifetime — but many go undiagnosed until they cause pain or complications, according to a release.

To help Southeast Valley residents catch issues early, HonorHealth is offering free hernia screenings 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 9, at its East Mesa location — HonorHealth General Surgery – East Mesa, 10238 E. Hampton Ave. Suite 301C in Mesa.

The screening takes 15 minutes and is conducted by a qualified health care professional through a quick, noninvasive physical exam. Attendees will receive immediate results and personalized recommendations, the release states.

Space is limited. Register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/get-a-hernia-screening-on-us-tickets-1420038456249?aff=oddtdtcreator.

Hernias can affect anyone, but you may be at higher risk if you:

  • Perform physical labor or heavy lifting
  • Have had prior abdominal surgery
  • Suffer from chronic coughing
  • Have a family history of hernias

Hernias don’t always have symptoms but can include pain or tenderness in the groin, swelling or bulging in the abdomen, or a feeling of heaviness or pressure in the abdomen or pelvis. If any of these signs are present, schedule a time.
