Mesa invites the public to a community beam signing Saturday for the Gateway Library, the city’s first new full-service library in more than 25 years.
The beam signing is 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 15 at 5100 S. Eastmark Parkway (The Family Market at Eastmark).
Mesa residents of all ages are invited to leave their mark on the final steel beam for the Gateway Library ahead of its placement on the new building. Mayor Mark Freeman, Vice Mayor Scott Somers and Mesa Library Director Polly Bonnett are to attend.
When it is completed, Gateway Library is to include a THINKspot collaborative workspace and maker space, a digital art display wall and outdoor plaza that can be used for community events.
Funding for the new library is from the 2018 General Obligation Bond approved by voters and construction sales tax.
