The clinic will provide primary care and access to more than 30 medical specialties through partnerships with Mayo Clinic, Creighton University and ASU Health, along with volunteer medical professionals.
St. Vincent de Paul recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of its new East Valley Medical Clinic in Mesa, which comes as thousands of Arizonans get priced out of steeper health insurance premiums.
SVdP transformed a previous thrift store at 2352 W. Main St. into the 10,100-square-foot charity medical clinic to help meet the growing need. The clinic has 18 exam rooms, a small laboratory, medication dispensary and two procedure rooms, according to a release.
The East Valley Medical Clinic marks the expansion of SVdP’s collaborative charity clinic model, bringing together volunteer medical professionals alongside health care partners, universities and their students to fill a critical gap in the health care system by providing quality care for uninsured and underserved patients while strengthening the future health care workforce.
The nonprofit operates a medical clinic in this model on its main campus just south of downtown Phoenix.
“Our new East Valley Medical Clinic means more availability, greater access to care, and more lives returned to health for a patient population that often has to put family bills, groceries, gas, childcare and more before caring for themselves,” said Shannon Clancy, SVdP’s CEO. “We often say that our clinic is ‘the clinic of last-resort’ — that if we say no, the alternative is no care or an ER visit beyond financial reach. With the help of our community partners, we are so grateful that we can say ‘Yes’ more often now and provide hardworking members of our community with the care they need to thrive.”
The $5.5 million clinic is made possible thanks to an anonymous donor. Willmeng was the general contractor, and Vehr/Webb Studio Architects & Artists was the architectural firm.
Similar to SVdP’s main campus clinic, the East Valley Medical Clinic will be a site for students to gain field experience, helping to train the next generation of health care professionals in compassionate care.
