AT&T and Compudopt recently provided A New Leaf 250 refurbished laptops to distribute to Mesa residents in need.
The computers, funded by an AT&T contribution, were given to Mesa students and families in need on Sept. 2.
“A New Leaf is committed to moving our community forward and addressing the digital divide. These laptops are more than just tools, they’re gateways to opportunity for the families we serve,” Michael Hughes, president and CEO of A New Leaf, said in the release. “We are thankful to work with and have the support of companies like AT&T who understand that access to technology is vital to our community members in need.”
According to U.S. Census Bureau data, millions nationwide still don’t have access to the internet or connected devices needed to fully participate in the online world, an issue known as the digital divide.
This effort is part of AT&T’s initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030, the release states.
“AT&T is proud to collaborate with organizations like A New Leaf to help close the digital divide in Mesa,” LJ Godfrey, president of AT&T Arizona, said in the relase. “Connectivity has become a key to nearly every door of opportunity, but millions of Americans still don’t have access to technology. These laptops will help connect Mesa families to new opportunities in our digital world.”
