Humpherys to step aside after 14 years on Gilbert school board

Longtime Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board member Jill Humpherys will not seek reelection this year, ending a 14-year tenure and leaving only two candidates for two open seats on the board.

With incumbent board President Chad Thompson and newcomer Whitney Pitt  as the only candidates to file for the Nov. 3 election, the race is expected to be canceled under Arizona law, with both candidates instead appointed to the seats.

Pitt is a GPS parent and director of business services for the city of Scottsdale.
