The Higley Unified School District is joining a nationwide federal lawsuit against major social media platforms, including Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube.
Attorney William Shinoff, representing the Frantz Law Group, presented details of the litigation, which accuses these companies of intentionally designing addictive algorithms that harm children’s mental health.
“Over the past 10 years in which these platforms have been around, we’ve seen an increase in anxiety, depression, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and sadly even suicide,” Shinoff told the HUSD Governing Board on Dec. 10. “We are trying to hold these companies accountable specifically for the impact we’ve seen on our campuses.”
