The Student Growth Percentile data for HUSD reveals a clear link between school attendance and academic progress in English Language Arts and Math.
Among students who were not chronically absent, 38.54% showed high growth in ELA, compared to just 31.24% of those who were chronically absent.
Similarly, in Math, 38.19% of regularly attending students achieved high growth, while only 31.29% of chronically absent students reached that level.
Missing even a few days can disrupt a student’s progress and make it harder to stay engaged and motivated, according to the district, which said that is why it is committed to promoting a culture where every student feels supported, encouraged and inspired to show up every single day.
Through this campaign, HUSD and ASPRA aim to engage families, educators, and community members in a shared mission: to ensure that every child can reach their full potential by making attendance a top priority.
The district encourages parents and guardians who need support or have questions about their child’s attendance to connect with their school’s attendance specialist to explore ways to keep their student engaged and on track.
