Higley Unified School District has opened the door to adding preschool programs at two more elementary schools, although questions remain about the potential costs of expanding early childhood education.
The governing board voted 4-0 Oct. 27 to change the official grade-level designations for Chaparral Elementary School and Bridges Elementary School, making both eligible to serve preschool students under state school finance reporting requirements.
The action changes Chaparral's designation from kindergarten through eighth grade to preschool through eighth grade and Bridges' designation from kindergarten through sixth grade to preschool through sixth grade.
