The Light the World Giving Machines will return to Water Tower Plaza in downtown Gilbert from Nov. 17 through Dec. 31, offering residents a unique way to support local and global charities during the holiday season.

A launch event is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Water Tower Plaza, 45 W. Page Ave. The event is open to the public.

The vending machine-style kiosks allow users to donate items such as warm clothing for children, groceries for families, job training for individuals and even livestock for communities around the world. Prices range from $5 to $250.

The Gilbert Giving Machines will benefit several nonprofit organizations, including Lauren’s Institute for Education, Harvest Pack, Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest, House of Refuge, One Small Step, Mary Gloria Foundation, Paz de Cristo Community Center, Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation, Positive Paths and Hope Women’s Center. Global charities include Days for Girls and Mentors International.

“The Giving Machines allow our community to come together in such a tangible way,” said Kayla Kolar, president and CFO of House of Refuge. “Every contribution directly helps families facing homelessness find safety, stability, and hope for a brighter future here at House of Refuge.”

The initiative is part of the Light the World campaign, sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since its launch in 2017, the program has raised nearly $50 million worldwide, including more than $6.7 million from Arizona donors.
