Gilbert Public Schools has appointed Joshua Friedman, an award-winning school security administrator and former town of Gilbert emergency manager, as its new director of safety and security.
Friedman, who has served as director of safety and security for Scottsdale Unified School District, replaces Carrie Soderman, who recently presented an overview of GPS safety and security initiatives to the governing board.
The GPS Governing Board approved Friedman's appointment at its Oct. 27 meeting for the remainder of the 2026-27 school year.
