Gilbert Public Schools is placing student support specialists at four elementary campuses to help teachers prevent classroom disruptions before they escalate into disciplinary incidents.
The specialists will spend most of their time working alongside teachers, modeling classroom-management techniques and developing routines intended to produce orderly and predictable learning environments.
The initiative is designed to move schools away from responding only after a student’s behavior has interrupted instruction. It also seeks to address teacher burnout by giving educators more immediate help managing increasingly challenging classroom behavior.
