Gilbert Public Schools is moving toward replacing its seventh- and eighth-grade science curriculum for the first time in as many as 20 years, with an emphasis on increasing academic rigor.
The district's governing board voted unanimously Oct. 13 to advance three curriculum providers for further evaluation, beginning a process that will include committee reviews, public inspection of materials and classroom pilot programs before a final adoption.
Superintendent Jared Ryan said the district believes it has been between 15 and 20 years since it last adopted a new science curriculum for those grades.
