Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board members criticized Proposition 320 at an Oct. 13 study session, questioning its fairness and effectiveness in holding school districts accountable while exempting charter schools from the same requirements.
The criticism was particularly notable coming from board President Chad Thompson and members Shana Hebert and Blake Robison, who ran for their seats with conservative credentials and expressed support for fiscal accountability in public education.
Their objections were not to the idea of holding school districts accountable for how they spend taxpayer money, but to the proposition's approach to doing so.
