Fiber internet company Gigapower speeding through Gilbert build-out

Work on bringing a fiber network to Gilbert for residents and businesses to access broadband internet service is accelerating as one provider pursues an aggressive build-out schedule.

Gigapower, a joint venture between AT&T and global investment company BlackRock, is pursuing a plan to widely deploy a fiber network across the residential areas of Gilbert to provide an alternative high-speed internet option for residents.

“They approached the town, and they let us know that they had worked through all those (preliminary) steps and they had a very ambitious project where they want to deliver fiber to most of our residential community,” said Allyna Bay, assistant to the town manager and the town’s point person on the project. “And their plan is definitely an aggressive one, a build plan of approximately two to three years.”
