The Arizona Cardinals held a Youth Training Camp at Higley Traditional Academy earlier this week, giving students a chance to learn football skills in a non-contact setting.

Cardinals offensive lineman Jon Gaines II and members of the team’s cheer squad led drills and activities during the event. The program emphasizes teamwork, effort and the importance of education and physical activity.

“We have the opportunity to be positive role models to these kids,” Gaines said in a release. “I had never met a professional athlete as a kid, so to have this opportunity to inspire them and show them how fun it is to be moving and active is important.”

Principal Caryn Bacon said the camp was a highlight for students.

“We’re grateful for our partnerships with Earnhardt and the Cardinals, who help provide these unique experiences for our students,” Bacon said in the release. “When others get involved in local schools, we all see the benefits.”

The camp concluded with a player meet-and-greet and autographed T-shirts for students.
