Candidate says parent advocacy led him into Higley school board write-in race

Travis White did not expect filing paperwork for a vacant Higley Unified School District Governing Board seat to turn into a court fight.

But the Coronado Elementary School parent, who had become a regular presence at board meetings advocating for district programs and teachers, said he already had been considering whether to someday seek a seat himself.

When then-board member Scott Glover told White on July 20 that he had resigned, White decided that day to act.
