Kyrene Elementary School District has once again received national recognition for exemplary financial stewardship, earning the prestigious Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International for the fifth straight year.
Each year, fewer than 140 districts nationwide earn the award. Kyrene was the first Arizona district to earn the award in more than a decade and is the only district to achieve the recognition five years in a row.
The award program recognizes school districts that meet the highest standards in budget development and presentation. To earn the award, districts must submit a comprehensive, transparent and analytically rigorous budget that reflects responsible planning and community accountability.
“Earning this recognition for the fifth consecutive year speaks to the Finance team’s commitment to thoughtful planning, accuracy and accountability,” said Chris Herrmann, Kyrene's Chief Financial Officer and Associate Superintendent.
Kyrene’s Annual Budget Report is a critical communications tool for the district, providing families, staff and community members with a clear and detailed accounting of Kyrene financial practices. This transparency has played a pivotal role in building public trust, helping the district secure voter approval for bond initiatives and budget overrides in recent years.
