In an effort to enhance roadway safety, the Chandler Police Department is conducting an "occupant protection enforcement detail" from Aug. 31 to Sept. 9, with a focus on proper seat-belt use, according to a news release.
During the detail, officers will be enforcing Arizona’s seat belt and child restraint laws to help reduce the risk of serious injury or death in traffic collisions.
Seat belts are proven to be one of the most effective ways to protect vehicle occupants, the release states, yet unrestrained occupants continue to be a factor in many serious and fatal crashes.
As traffic volumes increase, so does the importance of making safe choices behind the wheel, police stated. Buckling up is a simple step that can make a life-saving difference for drivers, passengers, and children.
Arizona law requires all occupants to be properly restrained and children must be secured in the appropriate car seats or booster seats based on age, height, and weight.
The Chandler Police Department encourages everyone to buckle up every trip, every time, and to ensure all passengers are properly restrained before the vehicle is in motion.
This enforcement detail is funded by a grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
