Chandler Museum exhibit celebrates relationship with sister city

Posted

"Ceangal/Connections” will be showcased at the Chandler Museum through July 20, according to a news release.

This collaborative exhibt brings together artists and writers from Chandler and Tullamore, Ireland, reflecting on the unique cultural exchange between the sister cities.

Ceangal (pronounced KANG-ul) means "connections" in Irish. The exhibition features a range of media, including visual art, photography, writing, and film, with each work exploring the landscapes, landmarks and shared experiences of both communities.

The artists represented include:

• Laurie Fagen, fiber artist, Chandler

• Devon Hancock, filmmaker, Chandler

• Lynne Hartke, writer, Chandler

• Siobhan McCormack, painter, Tullamore

• Paul Moore, photographer, Tullamore

• Geraldine O'Neill, writer, Tullamore

• Evin O'Toole, filmmaker, Tullamore

• Robert Rice, photographer, Chandler

“Ceangal/Connections” not only celebrates the artistic talent from both cities but also deepens the bond between Chandler and Tullamore, which have been sister cities for 15 years, according to the release.

Through this exhibit, the artists explore themes of cultural exchange, shared heritage, and the ways in which art can bridge distances. Visitors can experience the beauty and history of both cities through the eyes of local artists.

An opening reception was held, March 14.  There will also be public programs in the form of “One Connection at a Time: Chandler's 15-year Relationship with Tullamore, Ireland” presented by Lynne Hartke and Ellen Harrington, Tuesday, June 3, noon to 12:30 p.m., and  “Connections: Tullamore & Chandler,” set for Sunday, June 8, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Chandler Museum is located at 300 S. Chandler Village Drive. It is open Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Mondays. Admission is free.
