Chandler Council deadlocked on airport runway extension

Councilmember, mayor disagree on including all of Council's input

A Chandler City Council work session about airport development and planning led to a heated discussion about work session routines in general.

A Sept. 17 presentation by Chandler Municipal Airport Director Ryan Reeves included much detail about a topic discussed many times by Council and various boards and commissions through the years: extending the length of Chandler’s main runway, 4R/22L by 680 feet to a length of 5.500 feet.

For years, Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke has run work sessions in a manner that often involves an informal polling of Council on how to direct staff to move forward on the topics at hand, especially when staff presents some multiple options or yes-or-no questions.
