Chandler district’s first powwow well-attended

Chandler Unified School District parent volunteer Lisa Calderon spoke at an April CUSD Governing Board meeting, praising the first Native American powwow the district had hosted earlier in the month.

Like many who attended the April 11 daylong event, held on a Chandler High School athletic field, Calderon said she wants the event to happen again and again.

Funded and arranged significantly by the Chandler High School Native American Booster Club, the event was held in recognition of the deep cultural significance powwows play in Native communities.
