U.S. Vets-Phoenix is an organization dedicated to ending veteran homelessness.

The community is being asked to help these veterans enjoy life by donating to a coffee drive sponsored by Jewish War Veterans, Copper State Post 619, with support from IronOaks and Stone & Barrel.

JWV is hoping that the Sun Lakes and surrounding communities will join them in bringing can(s) of regular ground coffee, such as Folgers’ to the Oakwood Country Club, 24218 S. Oakwood Blvd in Sun Lakes, between Jan. 27 to Feb. 16.

Volunteers ask for cans of grounds only — no bags or pods.

In appreciation of veteran support, donors of coffee will each receive a Stone & Barrel coupon for their choice of a free draft beer, house wine, soda, coffee or tea with any purchase.

Donors need only show their coffee donation to the Oakwood concierge to obtain the coupon. The concierge hours are Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

When Post 619 asked Michelle Jameson, executive director of U.S. Vets Phoenix, what they needed, regular ground coffee was her suggestion. She said they consume three cans of it per day — 1,900 cans per year— collectively.

U.S. Vets Phoenix provides housing, mental health services, career development and case management services to assist veterans in regaining and maintaining independence.
