Driver sent to prison in fatal DUI crash, leaving Chandler collision scene

Posted

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to 11 years in jail after his vehicle hit and killed a woman who was walking in a marked crosswalk at Octotillo and McQueen roads, authorities said Wednesday.

Keith James Taylor also faces five years of intensive probation after serving his prison term.  He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and leaving a fatal accident scene .

On Nov. 27, 2023, Taylor was driving east on Ocotillo Road when he struck the pedestrian at a canal crossing near McQueen Road. Taylor fled the scene and later abandoned his vehicle after crashing into another car at a nearby intersection, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Chandler police found Taylor and saw signs of intoxication. A test revealed blood-alcohol concentration more than twice the legal limit, the release stated.

“You can run, but you can’t hide from law enforcement,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said. “The clear disregard for human life was evident in this case and the sentence ordered by the court is justified for the crime committed.”
