The Aldi grocer continues its push into Arizona, with Glendale its next targeted opening.
The new store, at the intersection of 59th Avenue and Bell Road, or 16880 N. 59th Ave., to be exact, anticipates opening sometime before April of 2023, according to a city spokesperson.
The Aldi corporation confirmed the new Glendale store’s construction but declined to comment on an expected opening.
The Glendale city council this past week approved an Aldi liquor license request as part of its routine consent agenda items. The Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control application (No.201114) was submitted by Jeffrey Craig Miller.
The grocer has made big moves into the Valley, opening stores in recent years in Gilbert, Chandler, Goodyear, and most recently in December 2020, Peoria.
The company in a news release states its business plan is to become the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022. Aldi is headquartered in Germany.
Aldi stores generally have roughly 12,000 square feet of retail space and feature four to six aisles, according to the news release. Ninety percent of products are from Aldi-exclusive brands including the Simply Nature, liveGfree, Specially Selected and Earth Grown lines.
Aldi also offers a curated product selection of organic meats, fresh produce, gourmet cheeses, sustainable seafood, gluten-free foods and specialty wines, the release stated.
