A long-awaited grocery store in north Peoria opened to the public, Dec. 15.
Aldi, located on Lake Pleasant Parkway south of Happy Valley Road, celebrated a ribbon cutting and opened its doors today.
This is the newest location, 26455 N. Lake Pleasant Parkway, for the German-based grocer, which has been expanding in recent years, pushing for more openings in the U.S. The grocer has plans for four more locations in the Valley, opening this fall and winter, including a store in Goodyear. The other stores will be in Chandler and Gilbert.
The company’s entry into Arizona is part of a plan that puts Aldi on track to become the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022, according to a news release.
Aldi stores are designed for simplicity and efficiency, and the company has integrated several new safety features into its stores across the country. The health and safety of customers and employees are top priorities, and the company has optimized its stores to provide the cleanest, safest shopping environment possible, the release stated.
Aldi stores generally have roughly 12,000 square feet of retail space and feature four to six aisles. Ninety percent of products are from Aldi-exclusive brands including the Simply Nature, liveGfree, Specially Selected and Earth Grown lines.
Aldi offers a curated product selection of organic meats, fresh produce, gourmet cheeses, sustainable seafood, gluten-free foods and specialty wines, the release stated.
The new Peoria Aldi broke ground in 2018, and most recently received approval in September for a Series 10 liquor license, which allows it to sell beer and wine for off-premises consumption.
