At the Founders’ Day celebration, the Queen Creek Police Department and the Queen Creek Fire & Medical Department will square off in the Battle of the Badge by taking part in a number of competitions.

Before that, however, the two departments are teaming up for the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance for a food drive – and residents can participate, according to a post on Queen Creek’s Facebook page.

Residents can donate to the food drive by dropping off food items at town buildings throughout Queen Creek. The food drive benefits the United Food Bank, the post stated. Donations can be dropped off through Wednesday, Sept. 13.

The most needed items include whole grain cereal, peanut butter, rice, pasta and canned chili, soups and stews.

Residents are also invited to a Day of Remembrance ceremony, which starts at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Duane Ellsworth American Legion Post 129, 20727 E. Civic Parkway.

Founders’ Day takes place on Saturday, Sept. 16. The QCPD team is looking for pay back after losing to the QCFMD team two years running.
