Weekly free movies return to Kiwanis Park in May

Tempe’s free movie series, Movies in the Park, is back on the first four Friday nights in May, showcasing a selection of family-friendly movies.

Pack a picnic dinner, grab a blanket and head over to Kiwanis Park to watch classic movies under the stars this spring, a city release stated. Movies begin at dusk, approximately 7 p.m., on the north soccer fields at Kiwanis Park, Baseline Road and Ash Avenue (just west of Mill Avenue).

Come early to reserve your spot and hang out with the Tempe Play Mobile for fun pre-movie activities, the release stated.

Movies in the Park kicks off with a showing of “The Little Mermaid,” on Friday, May 3. The city will host a special "Summer of Fun Kickoff" event starting at 5 p.m. where attendees can enjoy games and activities while learning about all the fun there is to explore in Tempe this summer.

Check out booths from Tempe Community Arts, special interest recreation camps, Tempe Aquatics, Tempe Public Library, Tempe History Museum and Tempe Play Mobile, the release noted.

Other movies to come:

  • Friday, May 10: “Wish” (PG)
  • Friday, May 17: “Finding Nemo” (G)
  • Friday, May 24: “Elemental” (PG)
