OPINION — It has surprised me to hear how many young Americans believe in socialism/communism, even after so many communist nations have failed, in front of our eyes, over the years.
Have teachers neglected to share the real history of these failed states? There are many examples of proud Americans, who were brought up under communism, arrived with nothing, worked hard and achieved the American Dream. The American Dream is available to all, not just those who start with a war chest.
Too many educated community organizers, who haven’t held a real job, often financed by the parents into their thirties, resent those who have made it. Sadly, they appear to hate this unique country, now seek political office and find support from voters who expect the government funding to be the answer for all their needs.
Too many young Americans presumably grow up taking the opportunities in this country for granted, believing it’s the same or better in other countries. It’s not! As one of those proud Americans, born on other shores, there is no other country that offers individuals the chance to succeed like America.
Tragically, too many Americans believe in government handouts, ala socialism, but as Margaret Thatcher said, “the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.” I pray we don’t need to wait and watch the former part-time D.J. in New York City fail or the mayor of Seattle (who is a product of privilege, still relying on her parents into her 40s to pay her bills) driving successful businesses out of town, before the country, as a whole, says, “Enough!” It is time for us all to say, “Enough!” now and do our bit to spread the word to those who apparently are still expecting socialism/communism to be the answer.
